Betty Ann (Shirley) Newton

Betty Ann (Shirley) Newton Pickens, South Carolina Betty Ann (Shirley) Newton, age 90, of Pickens, South Carolina, our Godly and beautiful mother, broke the bonds of this earth to awaken breathing celestial air on April 23, 2022, at 9:05 pm. She went peacefully without a struggle, surrounded by family that loved and cared for her during the last few months of her life. Mrs. Newton throughout the last few weeks of her life was able to tell all of her family that she loved them. She celebrated her 72nd anniversary on February 16th, and her 90th birthday on March 3rd. She had 4 children and 7 grandchildren. All 4 of her children are still living. Mom loved Jesus above everything and lived an exemplary life of sacrifice and service to him and others. She served on the mission field in the Bahamas, Turks, and Caicos Islands for many years. She loved each of her children and grandchildren without judgement. She will be missed more than words can say. Her husband of 72 years was by her side stating, “I’ll meet you on the other side.” She truly is reaching the end of the gravel road and stepping onto streets of gold. Surviving are her husband; Reverend Philip Charles Newton, minister and missionary, Judy Carol Halverstadt and her two sons; David Neil Halverstadt II, Jonathan Philip Halverstadt, Phyllis Ann Brooks, Deborah Lynn Ledford and husband David Alan Ledford Jr., and their 3 children Branden David Ledford, Heather Virginia Ledford, and Seth Newton Ledford, and daughter Elizabeth Jane Chitwood. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary Bell Shirley, her sister Frances Fields, and her two grandsons, John Philip Chitwood and Ryan Keith Chitwood. Funeral services will be conducted by Mountain View Funeral Home in the Tabernacle of Gospel Light Campground located at 328 Kings Way Drive Liberty, South Carolina 29657 on Friday, April 29th,2022 at 11:00 am, where Philip and Betty Newton gave 40 plus years of their lives to build and labor to see God’s kingdom advance. Officiating will be Reverend Philip Newton and Duane Newton. Burial will follow the service at Memory Gardens in Central, South Carolina. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to the service in the Tabernacle. Grandsons and family will be pallbearers. Mountain View Funeral Home – Pickens Chapel is serving the Newton Family.
