Sara Jean Lugtigheid

Sara Jean Lugtigheid Pumpkintown, South Carolina Born February 11, 1959 to loving parents Cornelius and Margaret VanDerPuy passed from this life Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Sara went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after her journey with cancer. She moved to South Carolina to be near her children in 2014 after being diagnosed with a rare disease that put her in a wheelchair. She was known to all who traveled the Dacusville Highway as the lady with all the flowers. She loved to bake cookies and goodies for her family and church friends. Needlework was also God’s gift to her, she was always working on something. She loved her family here and in Michigan. Her love for her church, Fairview Independent Baptist, was obvious as she tried to make it to every service she could. Sara wants to thank the members of her church for their incredible support, including driving her to all the many medical appointments, shopping, taking care of her home duties, and above all, prayers. In Sara’s battle with cancer, God caused the very best to come out in her. The spirit of gladness and gratitude was amazing and infectious to all who came in contact with her. She proclaimed that it is only through God’s love and forgiveness and grace that she gained the knowledge and comfort to know she would be dancing and praising God on streets of gold. She was preceded in death by her father Cornelius VanDerPuy, her husband Richard Lugtigheid and her sister Connie De Haan (VanDerPuy). She is survived by her daughter Lisa (John) Moss and her son Matthew Anderson and six grandchildren: Addison Moss, Emma Moss, Laurel Moss, Hunter Moss, Kenzie Anderson, Corbin Anderson. Also, her mother, Margaret VanDerPuy, brothers, Fred (Barb) VanDerPuy, John (Mary) VanDerPuy, Michael (Deb) VanDerPuy, Mark (Sandy) VanDerPuy, and a sister Beth (Paul) Rau. Sara’s funeral will be at Fairview Independent Baptist Church, 130 Fairview Drive, Pickens, South Carolina 29671 on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Visitation from 10 am until 11:45 am, service immediately following with Pastor David Lambert officiating. After the committal service in the cemetery, Sara’s request was that everyone gather in the fellowship hall for food and ice cream. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Lugtigheid family.
