Charles (Charlie) Edward Shipman Greenville, South Carolina Charles (Charlie) Edward Shipman was born in Greenville SC on February 9, 1940 the firstborn child of Drayton and Pansy Shipman. He was the oldest sibling to 5 sisters and 4 brothers and he was so very proud of them all. Sue Childers, Glenda Conner, Marguerite Davis, Patricia Bradley, Sherry Patrick, Harold Shipman, Robert Shipman, Jimmy Shipman and Michael Shipman. Charlie went to eternity on Sunday April 25, 2021. He leaves wife Danielle, daughters Marie Pritchett (Joel), Sonya Skidmore (Brent) and son Phillip Shipman; grandchildren Ali Kent (Calton), Savannah Skidmore, Luke Skidmore, Peyton Shipman, Mitchell Shipman and was predeceased by Grandson Joshua Pritchett. He leaves great grandchildren Brody and Andie Kate Kent. He leaves nieces, nephews, countless friends, colleagues and a legacy that will last in all of our memories for as long as we live and, in our children, and their children for generations to come. Charlie was born in poverty but gained treasures through adventure, relationships, travel and most of all through his service to others. He served our country in the United States Air Force. He served his family, extended family, friends and community for decades. He was the first college graduate in his family; he was a founding member of the Hejaz Air Squadron flying children to and from Shriners hospitals for lifesaving and life changing treatments; he served our state and our community as Chairman of the Drug and Alcohol Commission for many, many years and was instrumental in bringing an adolescent treatment center to the Upstate - recently renamed The Charles E Shipman Center in Travelers Rest, SC where he raised his family and where kids and families lives will be forever changed because of Charlie. If you’ve ever heard the story of “what did you do with your dash?” you’ll understand what drove my Dad. His life started in a little shack, in a little town way down where the Carolina moon shines bright under Palmetto trees. His life could NEVER be defined on the words of this page. His life can only be defined by what he did with his dash. That tiny little dash between the years of his life. From 1940 - 2021 Charles Edward Shipman did the best he could do, with all he could do, with that tiny little dash. He was an overcomer, a difference maker, a world changer, but to us.... he’s our Dad and we have been forever changed because he lived. And We know beyond a shadow of a doubt our Father in heaven said to him “well done my good and faithful servant…. welcome home my son welcome home”. We love you Daddy In lieu of a formal service and to honor their father’s wishes - A Memorial Drop-in hosted by his Children is to be held at the Charles E Shipman Center (formerly The White Horse Academy) @ 975 Foothills Rd Greenville, SC from 2-4pm on Sat May 15, 2021 All family and friends welcome. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Shipman family.
