Gene Porter

Gene Porter Pickens, South Carolina Gene Porter, age 77, loving husband of 49 years to Elaine Porter, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at St. Francis Downtown Hospital in Greenville. A native of Pickens County, Gene was born November 27, 1943, a son of the late Walter A. Porter and Marie Porter. Mr. Porter was a hardworking and genuine God-fearing man. He was faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Pickens. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; a son, Adam Porter (Jessica) of Pickens; a daughter, Rosemary Smith (Rudy) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Sarah Grace Porter, Emma Marie Porter and James Hayes Porter; a sister, Olive Porter; and three brothers, Ivey Porter, Garvin Porter, and Walter Porter, Jr. In addition to his parents, Mr. Porter was predeceased by his brother, Paul T. Porter. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the sanctuary of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 830 Country Club Rd, Pickens, SC 29671. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with burial to follow at Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 152 E Preston McDaniel Road, Pickens, SC 29671. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations In Mr. Porters honor may be made to the Wednesday Night Mission Fund – Mt. Sinai, 830 Country Club Rd, Pickens, SC 29671.
