James Marion Looper Pickens, South Carolina James Marion Looper, age 91, husband of the late Gladys Nix Looper, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Cottingham Hospice House. Born in Easley South Carolina on January 10, 1931, he was the second son of Jacob and Lizzie Mae Looper. He retired from Ryobi Manufacturing Company in 1993 as a Master Operator Machinist after 35 years of service. James was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was in the men’s Sunday school class, a former deacon, and sang in the choir. He was a Bible teacher for over 50 years and conducted a monthly service at Laurel Hill for 33 years. James loved picking his guitar, singing solos, duets with his wife, reading, and gardening. Surviving are his immediate family Janice Nealey, Candace and Jordan Hunt, Gavin and Creed Hunt, Caleb Nealey, Adam Nealey, Bentley Nealey, Michael Looper, Josh and Jennifer Looper, Hunter Crayton Looper, Pressley Looper, Hailey Anders, Sara Nix, Essie Looper, Richard Holcombe, James Holcombe, special nieces, Abbey and Emma Dodgens, Judy Turner Welch (God daughter) In addition to his wife Gladys, Mr. Looper was predeceased by his parents, his brothers; Eunice Looper and Bill Looper, and a sister Ruth Holcombe. Flowers will be accepted. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place following the service at Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Mountain View Funeral Home – Pickens Chapel is serving the Looper Family.
