Rev. James Charles Porter Pickens, South Carolina Rev. James Charles Porter, 91, husband of the late Lois Nix Porter, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his home. Rev. Porter spread the word of God as a minister in Pickens, Oconee, and Greenville for over 30 years. He retired from the ministry after 30 years and lived in Pickens County for his remaining years. James is survived by his sons; Melvin Porter (Judy) of Townville, David Porter (Martha) of Pickens, grandchildren; Lynn Porter Whitman of Townville, Brian Porter (Angie) of Walhalla, great-grandchildren; Christopher Kramer (Dana) of Palm Bay, FL, Owen Porter of Townville, Eli Whitman of Seneca, Taylor Whitman of Townville, great-great-grandchildren; Bentley Kramer, Mackenzie Smith, Coleman Whitman, Chloe Jones, a sister Doris Watson (Randolph) of Pickens, a brother Carlos Porter (Shelba) of Pickens, a sister-in-law, Ferra C. Porter of Pickens. Mr. Porter was predeceased by his wife Lois, parents Ernest and Daisey Porter, brothers; Alvin Porter and Wallace Porter. A graveside service will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. The family will speak to friends following the graveside service at the cemetery. The body will lie in state at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00am until 1:30pm for anyone that would like to pay their respects to Rev. Porter. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Regency Southern Care Hospice, 880 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Suite 1-A, Greenville, SC 29607. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Porter family.
