Cary S. Winch

Cary Scott Winch Easley, South Carolina Cary Scott Winch, age 57, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Cottingham Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 13, 1968, in Germany, Cary was the beloved son of the late Barrie P. Winch and Laura Jane Chapman Winch. He was of the Wesleyan faith and deeply cherished his church family at United Wesleyan Church in Easley. A proud United States Air Force veteran, Cary lived a life of service both in uniform and in his career as a Registered Nurse. His compassion and dedication made him a truly remarkable caregiver, known for his kindness and steady presence. Cary had a passion for life that shone through in everything he did. He was a devoted Harley-Davidson enthusiast who loved the open road, a fan of classic rock and heavy metal, and a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoyed discovering new restaurants. He was rarely without his beloved Diet Mountain Dew in hand. Prior to his passing, Cary was honored for his service both as a veteran and as a nurse by the Veterans Last Patrol Honor Ceremony and the Nurses Honor Guard of South Carolina—tributes befitting a man who dedicated his life to helping others. Survivors include his daughters, Lauren R. Winch and Lillian C. “Lilly” Winch, both of Easley; sister, Julie Valasek (Kevin) of Savannah, MO; and best friend, Sammy Sanders. Cary deeply loved his family, who held a special place in his heart. He cherished his niece, Katelyn Massey (Jake); his nephews, Hunter Valasek, Chaz Ellenburg, and Cruz Ellenburg; and his great-niece, Olivia Massey, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind many special family members who held a meaningful place in his life, including Jennifer Clayton, Pam Redding, Ruth and Dean Holder, Charlie and Megan Ellenburg, Adrienne Raines, and Dustin Henderson, along with his extended work family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Winch was predeceased by his sister, Leslie Ann Winch. The family will host a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at The Loom at Southern Weaving, 210 Fern St, Easley, SC 29640. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Cary and his loved ones.
