Karen Ann Grant Winchester Pickens, South Carolina It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of Karen Ann Grant Winchester, who died on May 12, 2026, at the age of 64. Karen was born on May 11, 1962, in Pickens, South Carolina to Doug and Mary Grant. She devoted her life to her family and local community. Known for her humor, kindness, and hospitality, Karen made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She graduated from Pickens High School in 1980 and went on to work in the School District of Pickens County for many years as a data entry clerk, receptionist, and most recently as a media clerk at Pickens High School. At home, she loved gardening, cooking, organizing, and reading. Above all else, Karen’s greatest joy was her family. Nothing meant more to her than time spent with those she loved, and her most treasured title was “KK” to her grandchildren. She had a remarkable way of making every holiday, birthday, and family gathering feel magical—filled with warmth, laughter, and special touches that made each occasion unforgettable. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply: her devoted husband, Rick; her children, Erin and Stewart Hunter and Jesse and Rachel Winchester; and her cherished grandchildren, Luke and Charlie Hunter and Benji, Lucy, and Caroline Winchester. She is also survived by her parents and mother-in-law, Jeanette Winchester, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Leonard and Nora Jones and Fred and Willie Mae Grant, as well as her brother, Doug Grant, Jr, and her father-in-law, Ben Winchester, Jr. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 3:00pm at Pickens First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the SALT Life Group. For those who wish to honor Karen’s legacy, the family suggests contributions to the Pickens High School Media Center in her name. Karen’s heart belonged to books, and she would want nothing more than for young people to discover the magic she found within the pages of a story. Most importantly, Karen believed that the best place to be was together. In her honor, please take the time to enjoy a meal with your own family. Nothing brought her more joy than the simple, sacred act of feeding those she loved and lingering over conversation at the dinner table. The family would like to thank Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital for their precious care of Karen and loving support. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Winchester family.
